AC refrigerant refill in Dammam

Refrigerant does not get used up. If your AC needs a recharge, it is leaking somewhere. We find and fix the leak before recharging, otherwise you will be back to the same problem within weeks.

Leak detection, vacuum, recharge

An AC refrigeration circuit is completely sealed. The refrigerant inside is not consumed and does not evaporate with use — exactly like oil in a sealed engine. So if the charge is low, there is a leak. That single fact separates a real repair from a recharge you will pay for again every season.

In Dammam the most common leak points are the flare connections at the outdoor unit, because thermal expansion and contraction through summers above 45 °C gradually loosens them. Next is corrosion of the evaporator fins from salt-laden humidity near the coast, then chafing of the copper lines where they pass through the wall.

Done properly

Four steps, in this order

  1. Measure pressure

Gauges go on and we read suction and discharge pressure against the spec on the unit’s data plate. The numbers tell us how far down the charge is.

  2. Find the leak

Electronic detector along joints and pipe runs, soap solution at suspect points, and a nitrogen pressure test for the difficult cases.

  3. Repair and vacuum

The leak point is repaired — flare remade or brazed — then the system is evacuated with a vacuum pump to pull out all air and moisture.

  4. Charge by weight

Charged on scales to the quantity printed on the unit, not by guesswork. Then the temperature split is measured to confirm performance.

Refrigerant types

Which refrigerant does your AC use?

The type is printed on the metal data plate of the outdoor unit. You cannot mix types or substitute one for another — each has its own operating pressures and compressor oil.

R410A

The most common refrigerant in units sold in Saudi Arabia over the last decade. It runs at higher pressure than R22 and must be charged in the liquid phase and by exact weight, because it is a blend whose composition shifts if charged partially.

R32

Found in newer high-efficiency models. Better efficiency and lower environmental impact, and it needs careful handling because it is mildly flammable — it should only be charged with the right equipment.

R22

The older refrigerant in units past ten years old. Global production is winding down and the price rises every year. If your unit runs on R22 and needs repeat recharging, replacement is usually the economical choice.

FAQ

Refrigerant questions

How often does an AC need a gas refill?
In a sound system: never. Refrigerant is not consumed in a sealed circuit. Needing a recharge means there is a leak that should be found and repaired first.
How do I know my AC is low on refrigerant?
Signs include weak cooling despite the unit running, ice forming on the copper line or the evaporator, and a rising electricity bill. Confirmation only comes from measuring pressure.
How long does leak detection and recharging take?
One to two hours for a typical case. If the leak needs brazing, or the pipework is hard to reach, it takes longer and we tell you before starting.
Can I convert an R22 unit to R410A?
Rarely worth it. The pressures and oils differ, and it requires changing the compressor and expansion device plus flushing the system. The cost approaches that of a new, more efficient unit.
Is the recharge covered by warranty?
Yes — 3 months, covering the leak point we repaired and the charge level. If a new leak appears elsewhere, we show you the measurements.
